Pompeii painters on display in Bologna

That between Bologna and culture is an age-old love affair. Even today, visitors and tourists flock to the city to admire the history, art, food and wine, craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence that this incredible area has to offer.
Indeed, the capital of Emilia continues to keep its fame intact by hosting prestigious exhibitions within its many museums. As proof of this, the Museo Civico Archeologico, which is based a few steps away from the Galleria Cavour stores, has recently inaugurated the exhibition “The Painters of Pompeii” inside.
From September until March 19, it will be possible to immerse oneself in the fascinating world of Pompeii, the Campanian city famous for the artistic and architectural wonders that archaeological excavations brought to light after the historic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. A thousand-year-old testimony that has come down to us and is emblematic of the greatness of the Roman civilization of which Bologna itself, called Bononia, was the nerve center. The exhibition was made possible thanks to a synergy between different cultural and scientific entities between the Municipality of Bologna, the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (which provided more than one hundred works) and, of course, the aforementioned Museo Civico Archeologico Bolognese.
Curated by Mario Grimaldi and produced by MondoMostre, the project aims to take the visitor through the ancient splendor of Pompeii by focusing, in particular, on the figure of the pictores, the skilled artisans whose mastery decorated the houses of Pompeii, Herculaneum and the entire Vesuvian area. The exhibition is thus a privileged look at the civilization of the time and the incredible heritage of frescoes, mosaics and decorations that the excavations have brought to light such as, for example, the very works and tools that the artisans used within their workshops or the reconstruction of entire rooms in the Pompeian style such as those of the House of Giasone and the marvelous domus of Meleagro, characterized by enormous frescoes with reliefs.
Once again beauty and culture meet in the shadow of the porticoes and confirm the prestigious reputation that invests our city as a cradle of knowledge from time immemorial.
