Galleria Cavour turns green for Davis Cup competition

13 September - 2023

Coppa Davis Bologna

The city of Bologna is preparing to host one of the most acclaimed sporting events of the year. In fact, the 111th edition of the Davis Cup is returning to the shadow of the Two Towers.

The prestigious tennis tournament, which will take place from 12 to 17 September 2023, represents the most important men’s team competition at international level and is about to catalyse the attention of fans and onlookers coming to the city from every corner of the world.

The qualifying round sees Canada, the title holder, Chile, Sweden and Italy competing; with champions of the calibre of Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Arnaldi and Lorenzo Musetti. The latter starred, among others, in a recent advertising campaign for Moncler. Galleria Cavour itself, on this very important occasion, has been chosen, together with Palazzo Re Enzo, to embody the soul and spirit of the Davis Cup by literally dressing itself in green, the official colour of the event.

The special lighting will therefore tint both of these emblematic buildings of the city: the Palazzo, which in the 13th century was the prison and residence of King Enzo of Sardinia, and the main façade of the Galleria, which confirms itself as one of Bologna’s symbolic places.

The prestige of such an important international competition is therefore combined with the prestige of our commercial reality and the brands present in it.
The ambitious sports project is the result of an agreement between the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, the Emilia Romagna Region, and the Municipality, and decrees the ever-increasing centrality of our capital city within the international scene. In its first match, Italy challenges Canada on Wednesday 13 September in a round that appears to be immediately uphill, given that it was precisely the Canadian national team that defeated the Azzurri last year.

The last, and only, Italian victory in the Davis Cup, it should be remembered, dates back 47 years, under the leadership of captain Nicola Pietrangeli. Bologna is dreaming of an encore, but in the meantime it is winning the record for hospitality with Galleria ready to represent the city in this renewed guise thanks to an unusual palette: because this September, in the city, the colour of the moment is undoubtedly ‘Davis Cup green‘.
